We decided to drive to New York City to board the Spirit, which was great for us, since it was only 4 1/2 hours.  The trip into Manhatten was pretty easy, and the parking was right next to the ship - very convenient!  What a great way to start the trip - no airport, taxicabs, or luggage check.
